I was sick last week. Really, really sick. It technically lasted only 24 hours, but I’m still not completely recovered. I lost eight pounds and for the first time today, I felt hungry. Almost a week after I was sick. But when I got hungry, I got really hungry. Just about the time it hit me, I was driving up Macadam and passed the Rip City Grill food cart sandwich board. I ate there about a year or so ago and really loved it. And a big, juicy sandwich sounded like just what I wanted. Also. It’s a block from my house.
So I walked up to the window and ordered the tri-tip sandwich and chatted with the owner, who’s friendly and conversational and he threw a slice of bacon in my sandwich because he had one leftover and was just about to close. He grilled up the steak + bacon, toasted the hoagie roll, and then put them together, with caramelized onions and barbecue sauce. The roll was crispy and by the time I got to my apartment had soaked up some of the sauce and turned into a delicious, moist but still firm mouthful of spicy sweet bread filled with tender meat and onions. Such deliciousness delighted me.
I accidentally ate the whole thing. And was sufficiently full for the rest of the day. Completely. Full.

Wow, that looks amazing! I want one.
going there tomorrow. nom.
That looks fantastic, Elizabeth! (And I’m so glad to hear you’re feeling better.)
Despite the searing heat outside, the kind where all you want is a salad so crisp it can deafen, that sandwich looks gorgeous and has filled me with great yearning.
Of course, it probably doesn’t help that my hunger slammed right into your great photographs.
Cheers.
